Are You Going the Extra Mile?

December 31st, 2009

“Render more and better service than you are paid for, and sooner or later you will receive compound interest from your investment.” Napoleon Hill

The Idea of ‘Going the Extra Mile’ may be a new one to may of you, but ask any Ultra Successful person about this idea and plan to get an ear-full.

Going the Extra Mile is a state of mind that will open up all sorts of avenues of success for you in your business or job.

It is something you must apply in every action in your work, in every physical or mental task if you wish to make your business a raving success.

Giving superior service with a positive mental attitude will catapult you to the top of your field, take your business to the next level, and give you the promotion you are hoping for.

The idea of Going the Extra Mile involves doing more than you are paid for, things that aren’t necessarily part of your ‘job description’.

Have you ever been somewhere where a customer service person has a sign that reads: ‘an emergency on your part doesn’t mean an emergency on my part’ or some such nonsense?

That person is going nowhere! That’s a bad attitude and bad business!

The idea that a customer is bothering you, or that their emergency is not of your concern states that you are just not interested in their business.

Going the extra mile can be as simple as being courteous when you are not paid to do so as when your job does not involve you dealing directly with the public.

It’s all in the little things.

I recall a story of a maintenance man changing a light bulb in a large hotel chain, he was high upon a ladder, when he noticed a customer needing service and the counter person was away from the desk.
This man came down from the ladder to assist the customer in any way he could-That’s Going the Extra Mile!

There are many instances of people going above and beyond the call of duty and eventually it will pay off.

If your current employer doesn’t recognize your brilliance, then another company may discover you and let your light shine for them.

In everything you do, focus on what you can do above and beyond what’s expected, and see your life improve in extraordinary ways.

To you Ultimate Success, Jonathan
