A five year olds motivation

I was recently hiking with my 5 year old son, on a steep mountain near our home. The hike we were on is quite steep, so much so that you literally have to grab on with hands to help propel you to the top.

Near the summit my son started saying: “I can do it, I can do it, I can do it”.

Now he’s just getting to the age where hiking is ‘boring’ and the like, so it was thrilling to see him motivate himself in such a way as to get excited to reach the summit of this mountain.

Many of us just know we ‘can do it’, so we just ‘do’, but other times we think we ‘can’t’ and don’t even try, when in reality if we just went for it, we would be able to do it!

History is full of people who just did it, not even knowing if they could ‘do it’, but having faith they could-they ‘did’.

I think the innocence of a five year old is something we all need to reconnect back into, where the ‘not knowing’ doesn’t stop us, and the excitement of ‘doing’ something new propells us to success, regardless of difficulty.

See you at the top! jonathan
